GUIZHOU: CRAFTSMANSHIP AS A NEW LANGUAGE OF CULTURAL DIALOGUE
Following the Shenzhen-Milan Lifestyle Week 2026, Hui Zhouzhao transforms the dialogue between Italy and China into an immersive cultural journey through people, traditions, and contemporary creativity. Following the conclusion of Shenzhen-Milan Lifestyle Week 2026, a Cultural Immersion Program will take participants to Guizhou, one of China's most culturally rich and distinctive provinces. Conceived as a natural continuation of the dialogue initiated between Shenzhen and Milan, the project offers an immersive experience centered on craftsmanship, cultural transmission, and direct engagement with local communities.
Rather than an extension of the official event calendar, the program has been designed as an independent cultural journey, inviting an international delegation to explore a living heritage shaped by skills, traditions, and knowledge that continue to evolve in contemporary society.
The initiative is led by Hui Zhouzhao, founder and creative director of HUI Milano and a long-standing ambassador of Chinese culture in Italy. Through her work, Hui has consistently fostered a dialogue between China's cultural heritage and contemporary design, bringing traditional craftsmanship onto international runways. Her vision extends beyond the aesthetic interpretation of tradition, creating meaningful connections with the territories, artisans, and communities that preserve these practices while generating new opportunities for cultural exchange.
In Guizhou, this dialogue takes shape through encounters with local communities, particularly the women of the Miao ethnic group, whose artisanal knowledge has been passed down through generations and remains deeply embedded in everyday life. Embroidery, textile making, decorative techniques, hand weaving, and traditional craftsmanship are presented not simply as manufacturing processes, but as cultural languages through which identity, collective memory, and transformation can be understood.
Participants will have the opportunity to engage directly with these creative processes, observing artisans at work and gaining a deeper appreciation of the human, cultural, and social values embodied in every handcrafted piece.
Alongside these immersive experiences, the program will explore Guizhou's artistic heritage, material culture, and culinary traditions, offering participants a multidimensional perspective on the province and its contemporary cultural identity.
One of the highlights of the program will be the presentation of a collaborative project between HUI and a leading textile group from Guizhou Province.
The initiative will showcase how traditional craftsmanship can inspire contemporary artistic research, combining cultural heritage with new creative languages. The program will also feature an artistic performance and a presentation exploring the dialogue between traditional manufacturing techniques and contemporary creative interpretation.
"Tradition is not something to preserve in a static way, but a living heritage that continues to generate ideas, opportunities, and culture. Through this project, we want to create genuine encounters between people while celebrating the knowledge safeguarded by local communities", says Hui Zhouzhao.
With this Cultural Immersion Program, the journey initiated between Shenzhen and Milan extends beyond the framework of a single event, becoming a platform for cultural exchange where contemporary creativity, traditional craftsmanship, and international dialogue come together to create lasting connections.
