A s I was writing a section of a book on sustainable development, I was struck by two key thoughts. In the first place, I was reminded of the growth in population, which had taken place over the last 60 or so years, from 3 billion approximately to over 8 billion. However, had we continued the previous trajectory of growth the population today would be approximately 5 billion. There are good reasons for this increase in growth of population; improved health, medical research breakthroughs, people living longer, expansion of globalised shipments of increased output of bulk food from better agricultural practises, and comparative peace, i.e. limited scope wars but no major conflagrations. Le elezioni anticipate del presidente, tenutasi il 9 luglio, digitando 87,05% dei voti, ha sconfitto il presidente uscente  Shavkat Mirziyoyev .  La sua candidatura è stata avanzata dal partito UzLiDeP  e sostenuta dal partito « Ripresa Nazionale » . I risultati preliminari delle elezioni sono stati annunciati in un briefing a Tashkent  dal presidente della Commissione Elettorale Centrale, Zainiddin Nizamkhojaev . Ha vinto  Shavkat Mirziyoyev , per il quale hanno votato 13 milioni 625 mila 55 persone , il presidente eletto.  Seguirono lunghi applausi. « Le elezioni si sono svolte sulla base di norme e standard internazionali e nazionale legge elettorale, in piena conformità con tali principi democratici, come l'apertura, la trasparenza, la libertà e la giustizia, e di buon umore », ha detto il capo della CEC .
